M Linden and Lon Safko, originally uploaded by susanreynolds.

I got the opportunity to sit in on an interesting podcast recording setting from today, with the Social Media Bible Interview with Mark Kingdon (M Linden), the CEO of Linden Labs, creator of Second Life.

The location in the Social Media Bible Garden Pinastri (159, 203, 20).was a great place to ask hang out and ask questions of Mark and chat with Lon along with a bevy of invited guests.

Thanks to Francine Hardaway for hooking me up with Lon. I wish I saw Francine more often in Second Life but I know that she knows its potential!

Christian Renaud Scheduled Session at World2Worlds

From an announcement from World2Worlds today comes information and invitation:

Conventional technology analysis copes poorly with emerging tech. Technology Intelligence Group, a new venture headed by Christian Renaud, who was Chief Architect, Networked Virtual Reality for Cisco until earlier this year, proposes a disruptive social model for analysis, harnessing Virtual Worlds and other new tech to connect experts directly with those who need to know.

On Tuesday September 30th at 1PM Eastern, 10 AM Pacific, TIG CEO Christian Renaud, colleagues and lead analysts will talk with us about this new model for the future at World2Worlds

World2Worlds events include numerous others including the education session pictured above, presented during August when Chris Gibson, Vice President of Educational Technology and Janyth Ussery, Director of Web Education for Texas State College West Texas shared info about their new degree and certificate programs delivered via Second Life.

The "Building with Sculpties" part of the Nonprofit Commons meeting today

Many times as part of our weekly meeting we get to learn something. Today it was some basics on "sculpted prims" known commonly as sculpties.

As part of the show and tell adventure we got to play around with putting together our own sofas out of parts provided in a super goodie bag from Mel Schaller, our instructor for the session,

Talking and Dozing at Nonprofit Commons Meeting

Ok, so we don't doze but when we're away from the keyboard it can look like we are.

Those with offices in Nonprofit Commons Islands Aloft and Plush hold meetings weekly in an effort to educate each other about our missions and to update about what our latest projects hold in store for the nonprofit and perhaps even other nonprofits.

Often special projects or guests have a prominent space as well, and we do our best to help each other in areas ranging from newcomer questions to more advanced user skills.

Weekly Meeting of NonProfits in SL

Friday September 19, 2008

Our presenting team were from Global Kids which enables young people across the globe to make positive changes in their worlds locally and beyond.

Since coming into Teen Second Life in January 2006, Global Kids has established a series of Islands that host interactive activities

Global Kids has educated thousands of teens about such topics as racism, the genocide in Darfur, public diplomacy, and the digital divide.
And Global Kids has also developed strong collaborative projects with Youth Venture, an international organization that supports young people to create positive change in their community.

SallyYV Lungu said "Outside of SL, Youth Venture works in 14 countries to inspire and support youth to create thie own clubs, organizations, and bussiness that have a postive community impact"

The DIDI program supports youth through the process of brainstorming an idea, building a team, developing an Action Plan (like a business plan), all the way through successfully launching and sustaining their initiative.. They have  supported over 2,000 teams of youth around the world to launch their own community enhancing ventures.
